1920s Iron Thumb Latches and Locks
Quite unusual matching wrought iron thumb latches with their original locks. These sets were very recently reclaimed from a 1920s Tudorbethan style property in the SE of England. Both the handles and the locks have brass mounts. They are probably by Elsleys but they aren't stamped. The locks are actually stamped 'Patent' we assume it refers to the round bolt as the locks are just a really simple one lever operation. These are handed so only work the way round in the image (i.e. lock on the right hand side of the door). Most of the keys are new but we've given them a bit of an antique. We see quite a few of the thumb latch handles but the locks and latches that they operate are few and far between.
Sold as a handle, lock, keep & key.
We've tried to leave them as original as possible, all the loose material and any rust has been removed and the brass mounts cleaned. A couple have have been touched in and they've all been finished with a waxoyl to stop them rusting.
