Set 16 Victorian Call Bells & Signs
An original fully working matching set of 16 Victorian graduated call bells, with flower fronts and matching flower indicator stalks and their original tin room signs. From a 1700s Country House in Scotland that was extended and remodeled in 1880. These are a really good quality and quite elaborate set, rather than the arm just bolting through, they have a separate brass frame which holds the arm and indicator stalk. The biggest 5 (as shown in the image) are all very large substantial bells, I can't remember having ones that large before.
The main image shows the biggest 5 and the smallest 4 (they need to be set further apart than in the image). They were all originally gilded and lacquered, instead of stripping it all off back to brass each component has been carefully cleaned to try and retain the original finish. All the iron work has been stripped and lightly refinished. I don't think they were mounted on a board, the larger bells are angled to keep them away from the wall but some of the indicators may rub. The signs originally hung from chains they would also 'jiggle' when the bell was rung. The signs have been lightly cleaned and finished with a product to prevent them deteriorating any further.
They've only been quickly photo'd some of the flower fronts are being repaired, the return springs aren't showing and none of them have been bolted back together.
